Where do Medicines Come From?

Bill writes that he is visiting Professor at the University of Nottingham, having previously been Research Director for Eli Lilly and Co at their research site in Windlesham in Surrey. Lilly are a major pharmaceutical company based in Indianapolis in the USA.

 

He qualified as a pharmacist and, after some time in community pharmacy and academia, he joined the company as a researcher in inflammatory diseases. Ultimately he moved into management and, after retirement, worked with small companies to develop new medicines.

 

His talk looks at the way medicines were and are discovered from herbals through chemicals to mRNA vaccines – a topic of contemporary interest!
